Stomatitis


Stomatitis is an inflammation of the mouth mucous membranes. Both adults and children can be affected with stomatitis. The main reasons for stomatitis are infections, different mechanic traumas, consequences of various body diseases. For example, it can be the result of digestive and endocrine system diseases.

Stomatitis is subdivided into catarrhal stomatitis, aphthous stomatitis and ulcerative stomatitis.

Catarrhal stomatitis

Catarrhal stomatitis is the most common kind of stomatitis. Incorrect oral hygiene, dental plaque or dysbacteriosis may provoke catarrhal stomatitis. The symptoms of this disease are plentiful salivation, swelling of the mouth, high temperature, bleeding gums and an unpleasant odour.

Ulcerative stomatitis

Most often this kind of stomatitis is a neglected form of catarrhal stomatitis. The people with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract more often suffer from ulcerative stomatitis. Also, it emerges as a result of the absence of proper and timely treatment of catarrhal form. Ulcerative stomatitis causes ulcers, high temperature, pain during eating, bad ordour from the mouth. Potassium permanganate (manganese crystals), hydrogen peroxide, furacillin and other pain relievers are used for treatment. You should see a doctor in the presence of the disease

Aphthous stomatitis (Thrush)

The symptoms of aphthous stomatitis are separate or multiple aphthae on the oral mucosa. It appears because of the viral infection, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, allergic reactions and rheumatism.
